We dispose of VOCs (volatile substances) in tanks awaiting cleaning, inspection or repair. They are full of gaseous explosive environment and human maintenance cannot enter them before volatile organic compounds elimination.

We developed the unit to help industries working with petroleum products or fuels.

SAFETY FIRST

The unit disposes of VOCs in explosive concentrations. It is therefore equipped with complementary safety measures to prevent explosion or fire:

VOCs are mixed with air before entering the unit and a lower explosive limit (LEL) detector checks for sufficient dilution.

The unit is controlled by a continuous TOC process analyser, which ensures that the entire process runs safely – shutting down the unit if operating limits are exceeded.

Sensors in the individual parts of the unit measure the temperature – if it exceeds the set values, the cleaning process is interrupted.

HOW DOES THE MOBILE UNIT WORK?

VOC-containing gas mixes with air.

The resulting polluted air passes through a flue gas heat exchanger where it is preheated.

If necessary, it is additionally heated up to the operating temperature of catalytic oxidation (above 300 °C) in the heating chamber. (For VOC concentrations of approx. 2 g/m3 and above, a completely autothermal process occurs, where the purified medium reaches a sufficient temperature after the heat exchanger.)

By passing air through the catalytic reactor, the VOCs are oxidised to CO2 and water. This releases heat which flows into the flue gas exchanger where it heats the polluted air.

BENEFITS

We can clean hundreds to thousands of m3 of gas per hour, so we can get rid of the VOC problem much faster than other technologies.

You will save on running the unit – thanks to the autothermal process, it does not need an additional heat source to operate.

You don’t have to deal with the unit’s electricity supply – it is energy autonomous when using a diesel generator. You don’t have to worry about the natural gas supply for the burner that other technologies have – the unit disposes of VOCs using electric heating.

Because the operation of the unit is supervised by an operator and secured by three safety circuits, you are not exposed to the risk of an accident.

The combustion of VOCs does not produce NOx or other pollutants, so you won’t put a strain on the environment.

After an unprecedented accident involving a train carrying benzene near Hustopeče nad Bečvou in February, our mobile recuperative catalytic oxidation unit helped to quickly and safely dispose of the volatile substance during the remediation of the area.

Benzene dissolved in groundwater was first removed using a method known as stripping in a stripping column (operated by Dekonta a.s.). The benzene-containing gas was then catalytically oxidized in our mobile unit and broken down into harmless carbon dioxide and water – without smoke, odor, or secondary emissions.

The entire operation was carried out under the constant supervision of experienced operators. Safety was ensured by several independent safety circuits and continuous monitoring of key parameters. Thanks to the mobility of the equipment, quick start-up, and compact installation, it was possible to intervene without delay and without unnecessary restrictions on the surrounding area.

The result?

Rapid stabilization of the environment, protection of residents and workers, and smooth remediation.
