Technologies for the disposal of volatile organic compounds at PLAKOR CZECH

20.04.2026

ELVAC EKOTECHNIKA supplied a regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) unit that converts pollutants into CO₂ and water. The technology with autothermal operation consumes minimal energy.

PLAKOR CZECH manufactures plastic parts for the automotive industry. It uses injection molding technology and subsequent painting of components, which releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

To prevent emissions of pollutants into the air, the company used equipment that was undersized and unreliable given the volume of production. It had to be replaced.

ELVAC EKOTECHNIKA supplied an RTO unit that eliminates VOCs emissions with an efficiency of over 99%.

The principle of operation of the RTO unit

  • The device sucks in air contaminated with VOCs.
  • The air is preheated in ceramic chambers that retain heat.
  • It then goes to the combustion section, where at approximately 800 °C the pollutants are burned (oxidized) to CO₂ and water.
  • The hot, purified air transfers its heat to the ceramic chamber, which thus remains constantly heated.
  • The direction of the air flow in the unit alternates, which helps to constantly reuse the generated heat.

Recycling thermal energy enables autothermal operation, requiring no external heating. This means that the RTO unit requires minimal operating costs.

Technical parameters of the RTO unit

  • Polluted air flow: 4,800 – 16,000 m3/h
  • Maximum VOC concentration at inlet: 6 g/m3
  • Minimum VOC concentration at inlet for autothermal operation: 1.5 g/m3
  • Maximum VOC concentration at outlet: 20 mg/m3
  • Inlet temperature of polluted air: approx. 30 °C
  • Outlet temperature of clean air: 80 – 150 °C
  • Device dimensions: 7 x 3.5 x 6.5 m
  • Device weight: approx. 34,000 kg

The benefit of the RTO unit for the customer

Replacing the original undersized technology with an efficient RTO unit means reliable disposal of VOC emissions generated during production. Thanks to this, PLAKOR CZECH meets ethical and legal requirements for environmental protection.
