Neousys PCIe-NPL54: Fanless 4-port frame grabber card for GMSL2 cameras

The Neousys PCIe-NPL54 is an industrial frame grabber card designed to integrate GMSL2 automotive cameras into x86-based computers. It allows for the connection of up to four GMSL2 cameras via FAKRA Z connectors, providing a reliable solution for machine vision, autonomous systems, ADAS, mobile robotics, and other demanding applications requiring multi-camera image processing.

Integrating automotive cameras into x86 systems

PCIe-NPL54 was developed to connect automotive GMSL2 cameras to industrial computers where native MIPI interfaces are not commonly available. With ready-made drivers for selected camera models, the card enables rapid integration of multi-camera systems into industrial and mobile applications.

 

Support for multiple cameras simultaneously

The card supports several validated configurations:

  • 2× 8 Mpx + 1× 3 Mpx at 30 FPS
  • 4× 5 Mpx at 30 FPS
  • 4× 3 Mpx at 30 FPS
  • 4× 2 Mpx at 60 FPS
  • 4× 2 Mpx at 30 FPS

The actual configuration depends on the type of cameras used and the host system.

 

Synchronization for sensor fusion

IThe integrated isolated GPS PPS input allows synchronization of multiple PCIe-NPL54 cards or other devices, such as LiDARs. The GPS PPS output copies the input signal and allows for easy connection of multiple devices from a single synchronization pulse source.

 

Reliable operation in demanding conditions

Thanks to the FPGA architecture, the card achieves low power consumption. When streaming from four 5MP cameras at 30 FPS, it consumes less than 20W, allowing fanless operation over a wide temperature range. It also includes an automatic streaming recovery mechanism after communication interruption caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
